The Jordanian Women’s Solidarity Institute (Tadamun) organized an awareness-raising lecture on the rights of older persons under Jordanian legislation, delivered by Ms. Samar Al-Jabra from the Institute’s Legal Team, for a group of women at Wadi Al-Haddada Development Center – Older Persons Club.

Al-Jabra highlighted the Jordanian legal framework that guarantees older persons protection, a dignified life, and respect. She noted that this framework includes a number of laws and regulations, most notably the Jordanian Constitution, the Protection from Domestic Violence Law, the Penal Code, the Personal Status Law, in addition to the National Strategy for the Rights of Older Persons.

She explained that Jordanian legislation includes provisions that contribute to protecting older persons from violence and exploitation and safeguard their rights and dignity. She emphasized that this legislative framework is rooted in Jordanian society’s values of respecting and appreciating older persons.

Al-Jabra also stressed the importance of proper upbringing in strengthening positive social values, contributing to family cohesion and community stability. She highlighted the need to enhance dialogue and communication skills when interacting with older persons and to provide them with the necessary psychological, health, social, legal, and economic care.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Al-Jabra recommended working toward the adoption of a dedicated law on the rights of older persons to ensure comprehensive protection of their rights, particularly since legal provisions concerning older persons are currently dispersed across several pieces of legislation.
